The KeepSafe Break-Away Collar protects a dog from collar strangulation by using a patented safety buckle that releases in emergency situations, such as when a dog is entangled with an object or another dog. The KeepSafe Break-Away Dog Collar is available in four sizes; the breaking strength of each safety buckle has been engineered for its corresponding collar size. If a dog's KeepSafe Break-Away Collar becomes entangled, sufficient force is supplied to cause the safety buckle to release, freeing the dog from danger and saving it from possible strangulation. After the collar has released, it can be reattached and used again and again.
Premier is dedicated to preventing needless injuries and deaths by providing you with KeepSafe, their life-saving break-away collar. Sadly, most dog owners are completely unaware of the risks and frequency of collar strangulation accidents until its too late. So many of the letters they receive carry this similar phrase: "I wish I would have known about collar safety sooner because my dog would still be alive." See our own personal story below......

My own experoience: I kept the martingale collars on our dogs 24/7. One day our 7 month old male puppy (Louie) and 3 year old bitch (Dee), both Dobermans, would have died if my son and I were not right there because of their collars. Dee's lower jaw became locked in the puppy's collar when they were playing as he flipped around when Dee went in to nip his neck. It was so tight that neither could get loose. They were screaming and pulling against each other as hard as they could to get away. I ran over and tried to get them loose but couldn't. Louie was passing out since the collar was so tight that it had shut off his air. He was choking to death right in front of us. My son put Dee in a lock hold trying to keep her from pulling as I ran to get scissors. I could hardly even get them under the collar to cut it off. It took 3 attempts to cut through it as Louie fell limp to the ground. Dee was still screaming and both lost control of their bowels as this was happening. Louie came to right away but was groggy. Dee's jaw was bruised at the gums on either side. Thank God they were fine. (Can't say the same for my oriental carpet but Oxy Clean is a product everyone should have on hand.) We all had to shower after cleaning up the mess. We now use KeepSafe Break-Away collars if they have to have collars on. Here is what Premier, the manufacturer says about the KeepSafe: "A KeepSafe Break-Away Collar with proper identification is a far safer choice than no collar at all. The collar is designed to provide peace of mind for dog owners and safety for their dogs. We also recommend that all dogs should be micro-chipped or tattooed for easy identification in case they should ever be lost." I recently had the pleasure of meeting Tenney Mudge, the creator of the KeepSafe break-away collars. She confirmed that our experience was typical with a playful puppy and an older dog.
