The K9 TOP COAT Comfort Coat is the newest addition to our line of wellness products. This unique garment has been created specifically for dogs with allergies. The material is breathable, Hypoallergenic, Anti-microbial, and odor resistant to allow for extended use. We have modified the design to use ultra soft velcro at the neck, and created extra long sleeves that can be cut to create a perfect fit for your dog. Some dogs may use the garment all day- or others for just a few hours.
Why We Know The Comfort Coat will Help: Safety is our primary concern. A study was completed at UC Davis Veterinary School to document the fact that Lycra garments will not overheat dogs and a current study comparing the use of the Comfort Coat with medications and other treatments is being completed at Oregon State University School Of Veterinary Medicine. Can my dog go to the bathroom wearing the Comfort Coat?
Yes. The garment is unisex so that male and female dogs can go to the bathroom without having to adjust the garment. Females have absolutely no problems. Males, due to their different anatomy, can have the abdominal zipper slightly undone to prevent them from urinating into the garment. The zipper is a non-travel/locking zipper.
How do I clean the Comfort Coat?
Wash the garment in cold water, gentle cycle, with minimal detergent-or Woolite. Line dry. You can place the garment in the dryer on low heat also.
How durable is the material?
This is a 4 way stretch Tricot Lycra that s highly durable and machine washable. It is lightweight and breathable. It can be worn in water, and has been color fasted to reduce and color bleeding (we recommend washing the garment after confirming it is the correct size for your dog). It is similar to the material used to make sportswear worn by many athletes such as runners, bicyclists and gymnasts
How long can my dog wear the garment for allergy treatment?
The length of use for the garment is purely determined by the severity of your dog's allergies. Some dogs will use the garment for a few hours per day--others for almost the entire 24 hour period. We recommend you start with a short use period and adjust up/down based on need. We do want you to work in conjunction with your veterinary care specialist.
Will the garment overheat my dog?
NO, The material is Breathable and will not overheat your dog. However we recommend that your dog use a lighter colored material if out in the sun for prolonged periods. There is a difference between solar and ambient temperature. Thus wearing a black shirt on a sunny day seems 'hotter' than a white shirt
How to measure your dog:
1. Top Line - Measure from the middle of the shoulder blades along the back bone to the dock of the tail.
2. Girth -- Measure the distance around the girth from just behind the front legs.
Compare your dog's measurements with those recommended by the sizing chart to determine the most appropriate size for your dog. If your dog's measurements fit into more than one category, use the Top Line measurement alone to select the best size.
